Talent is seeking a Payroll Officer in Sydney for a 6-month contract to manage high-volume, end-to-end payroll across Australia and New Zealand. You will work within a busy payroll team, ensuring accurate pay runs, responding to queries and supporting STP/ATO reporting.

You will bring experience with Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, payroll tax and proficiency with payroll systems. This role is Sydney-based and hands-on, ideal for practitioners who thrive in pace.

Qualifications

  • Experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Experience with high-volume payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation.
  • Experience with superannuation and payroll tax.
  • Familiarity with STP and ATO reporting.
  • Experience interpreting awards or EBAs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Process high-volume payroll accurately and on time.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll cycle and corrections.
  • Process timesheets, adjustments, allowances, deductions and payments.
  • Handle new starters, changes and terminations in the payroll system.
  • Review payroll data and investigate discrepancies before pay runs.
  • Respond to payroll queries with timely resolutions.
  • Process superannuation and support payroll tax requirements.
  • Support STP and ATO reporting.
  • Work with awards, EBAs and payroll legislation.
  • Maintain accurate employee and contractor payroll records.
  • Assist end-of-financial-year payroll activities.
  • Work with multiple payroll systems, timesheet platforms and integrations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues.
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation.

Payroll Officer

Sydney | 6 Month Contract | High Volume Payroll

An opportunity has become available for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a large, established payroll function on an initial 6 month contract.

Working within a complex, high volume environment, you will join an experienced payroll team responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll across Australia and New Zealand.

This is a hands on role suited to someone who enjoys working at pace, is confident managing payroll from end to end and can quickly get across new systems and processes.

The opportunity

As Payroll Officer, you will support the day to day delivery of a busy payroll function, working closely with the wider Payroll and Finance teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing high volume payroll accurately and within required deadlines
  • Managing payroll activities across the end to end pay cycle
  • Processing timesheets, adjustments, allowances, deductions and payments
  • Managing new starters, changes and terminations within the payroll system
  • Reviewing payroll data and investigating discrepancies prior to pay runs
  • Responding to payroll queries and resolving issues in a timely manner
  • Processing superannuation and supporting payroll tax requirements
  • Supporting Single Touch Payroll and ATO reporting
  • Working with awards, EBAs and relevant payroll legislation
  • Maintaining accurate employee and contractor payroll records
  • Supporting end of financial year payroll activities
  • Working across payroll systems, timesheet platforms and integrations
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues

Contributing to process improvements, automation and greater efficiencies across the payroll function

About you

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer who is comfortable working in a high volume and deadline driven environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • Previous experience in an end to end Payroll Officer position
  • Demonstrated experience processing high volume payroll
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Practical understanding of superannuation, payroll tax and Single Touch Payroll
  • Experience interpreting awards and/or EBAs
  • Experience processing timesheets, adjustments, new starters and terminations
  • Confidence investigating and resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Experience working with payroll systems and integrations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to strict payroll deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and a helpful, solutions focused approach when dealing with payroll querie

Previous experience within recruitment, staffing or contractor payroll would be highly regarded, as would exposure to Bullhorn or similar recruitment and workforce management systems.We are also open to candidates from other complex, high volume payroll environments, including healthcare, aged care, logistics, blue collar workforces, payroll providers and large corporate environments.
