Samuels Donegan is partnering with an established not-for-profit to recruit two experienced Payroll Officers for a 3-4 month temporary assignment with strong potential to become permanent. The team runs payroll for around 1,000 employees in a complex award and EBA environment while transitioning to new workforce technology.

Title: Payroll Officer x2 roles available!

Type: Temporary | 3-4 months | Strong potential to become permanent!

Hourly Rate: Circa $50 per hour including superannuation

Who are we?

We’re partnering with an established not-for-profit organisation to find two experienced Payroll Officers to support their team through a busy period of change.

You’ll join a close-knit payroll function responsible for approximately 1,000 employees, working across a complex award and EBA environment while the organisation introduces new workforce technology.

This is a hands‑on role where you can quickly get across the payroll and genuinely take some pressure off an experienced team. There is also potential for the opportunity to become permanent, so you’ll ideally be open to both the initial assignment and something longer term.

Who are you?

You’re an experienced Payroll Officer who’s confident with end-to-end payroll and comfortable working in a busy, deadline‑driven environment.

You understand that good payroll is about more than processing correctly. You’re approachable, solutions‑focused and able to communicate clearly with employees when they have questions about their pay.

You’ll bring:

• Strong end‑to‑end payroll experience
• Experience working across awards and/or enterprise agreements
• Good knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance
• Confidence processing starters, variations, terminations and deductions
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
• Clear, concise and empathetic written communication
• Confidence managing employee payroll queries
• Experience using at least one of MYOB PayGlobal, Humanforce or AlayaCare
• The ability to pick up new systems and processes quickly
• Openness to a potential temp‑to‑perm opportunity

You don’t need experience across all three systems, but previous exposure to at least one is a key requirement.

Day to day

You’ll support the delivery of a fortnightly payroll for approximately 1,000 employees, including:

• End‑to‑end payroll processing
• Processing new starters, employee changes and terminations
• Working across multiple awards and an enterprise agreement
• Managing salary packaging arrangements and deductions
• Investigating payroll discrepancies, overpayments and recoveries
• Responding to employee payroll queries via email
• Producing payroll reports for People & Culture and Finance
• Maintaining accurate payroll data and employee records
• Supporting strong payroll governance, compliance and data integrity
• Working within the MYOB PayGlobal payroll environment
• Supporting the team through its transition to Humanforce and AlayaCare

What’s in your toolkit?

You know payroll and can hit the ground running. While you don’t need experience with every system used by the organisation, you’ll need previous experience with at least one of MYOB PayGlobal, Humanforce or AlayaCare.

You’ll ideally have worked in a complex or manual payroll environment, understand award interpretation and be comfortable investigating issues rather than simply processing what’s put in front of you.

You’ll also be someone who can explain payroll clearly. There’s plenty of communication with employees and managers, so patience, empathy and a strong service mindset will go a long way.
