Job summary

Carpentaria, a not-for-profit organisation, is seeking a Payroll Officer to deliver accurate and timely payroll services across its operations. The role involves advising on payroll legislation, awards, taxation and superannuation, while supporting payroll governance and compliance with Fair Work, ATO and modern awards.

The ideal candidate will have a Certificate IV in Payroll Administration or equivalent, strong knowledge of SCHADS Award, proficiency with payroll software (ELMO), and excellent

  • Certificate IV in Payroll Administration or related discipline (or demonstrated equivalent experience, preferably in the community sector).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the SCHADS Award (MA000100) and/or other Fair Work modern awards.
  • Proficiency with payroll software (ELMO or equivalent) and working knowledge of STP Phase 2, superannuation obligations and PAYG withholding.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and high-level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-to-end payroll services accurately, compliantly and on time across Carpentaria's operations.
  • Provide specialist advice on payroll legislation, award interpretation, taxation and salary packaging.
  • Contribute to payroll governance and continuous improvement, ensuring Enterprise Agreement and Modern Award obligations are met.

About The Role

The Payroll Officer is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services across Carpentaria's operations. The role provides specialist advice on payroll legislation, award interpretation, taxation, superannuation, salary packaging and payroll compliance requirements. The Payroll Officer exercises initiative and judgement in resolving complex payroll matters, contributes to payroll governance and continuous improvement initiatives, and supports Carpentaria's compliance with Fair Work, ATO and relevant Enterprise Agreements and Modern Award obligations.

The ideal candidate
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a related discipline - OR demonstrated equivalent experience and competency, preferably in the community sector.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the SCHADS Award (MA000100) and/or other Fair Work modern awards.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g. ELMO payroll, or equivalent) with working knowledge of Single Touch Payroll (STP) Phase 2, superannuation guarantee obligations, and PAYG withholding.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and high-level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and effectively manage workload while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex industrial and payroll matters and provide practical advice to managers and employees.

You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, First Aid certificate and an NT Drivers Licence.
