Job summary

Cromwell Property Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Corporate Finance team in Brisbane on a fixed-term contract from November 2026 to March 2028. The role is a part-time position (3-4 days per week) with flexible working arrangements and a focus on accurate payroll processing and staff expense administration.

You will manage end-to-end payroll, ensure compliance with PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll tax, and provide reliable support to employees.

  • Ability to handle confidential information and ensure accurate record-keeping and controls.
  • Strong attention to detail and timely handling of payroll deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll preparation in line with the approved calendar.
  • Validate inputs and prepare calculations, exception reports and control reports for review.
  • Maintain payroll records and respond to employee payroll enquiries with escalation when needed.
  • Coordinate PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and related reporting/payments.
  • Prepare FBT lodgements and supporting schedules for review and approval.
  • Review expense claims and corporate card transactions in SAP Concur for correct FBT treatment.

Job description

About you

Cromwell Property Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Corporate Finance team in Brisbane on a fixed-term contract from November 2026 to March 2028. You have hands-on experience administering end-to-end payroll and understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and reliable controls. You are comfortable managing payroll deadlines, investigating exceptions and providing clear and respectful support to employees. You will also bring a practical understanding of employee expenses and corporate card administration and the confidence to guide users through systems and approved processes.

You will bring:

  • Practical experience administering end-to-end payroll, with knowledge of Australian payroll requirements, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and termination payments.
  • Experience with employee expense or corporate card administration and user support.
  • Experience using payroll and expense systems, with SAP Concur and Payce (Ramco) experience desirable.
  • An understanding of confidentiality, accurate record-keeping and payroll controls, including appropriate access and separate preparation and approval responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise critical deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and a responsive approach to employee service.
  • A relevant qualification in payroll, finance, business or human resources is welcome, but is not essential if you bring equivalent practical experience.

About the role

This is a part-time opportunity, ideally suited to someone available to work 3-4 days per week. We offer flexibility in working arrangements, provided the successful candidate is available to support critical payroll activities and payroll cut-off periods. Reporting to the Finance Manager – Accounts, you will manage payroll preparation and staff expense administration, helping Cromwell meet its obligations and providing reliable support to employees. You will work with colleagues across Finance and People & Culture to maintain accurate information, resolve queries and prepare records for reporting, review and approval.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing end-to-end payroll preparation in line with the approved calendar.
  • Validating authorised payroll inputs and preparing calculations, exception reports and control reports for review and approval.
  • Maintaining payroll records and responding to employee payroll enquiries, with appropriate escalation to People & Culture.
  • Coordinating PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and other payroll-related reporting and payments.
  • Preparing FBT lodgements and supporting schedules for review and approval.
  • Review employee expense claims and corporate card transactions in SAP Concur to ensure appropriate Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) treatment, accurate coding, and sufficient supporting documentation.
  • Provide final FBT approval for expense claims, identifying and resolving discrepancies by obtaining additional information or corrections as required.
  • Administer employee expense and corporate card processes, provide first-line SAP Concur support and follow up outstanding items to support timely reimbursements.
  • Prepare payroll reports, journals and supporting information for month-end, year-end, audits and reconciliations.
