Job summary

Serco in Australia is seeking a Payroll Officer to join the Payroll Services Team within our ASPAC Shared Service model. You will maintain and update HR and payroll master data, provide administration and operational support, and respond to payroll queries from employees, managers and P&C teams.

You’ll ensure payroll is accurate, compliant and delivered on time across multiple awards, employment types and jurisdictions.

Qualifications

  • 12 months or more experience in payroll or payroll administration, ideally in a shared services environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to follow established processes while using initiative to solve problems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with confidence responding to employee and manager queries.
  • Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and stay calm during busy pay-run periods.
  • Collaborative, team-focused approach with ability to learn new systems and processes.
  • Experience with SAP and ServiceNow is highly desirable, along with confidence using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll transactions across the employee lifecycle, including new starters, changes and terminations.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and HR data, including allowances, deductions, super and tax changes.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees, managers and P&C teams with timely, customer focused support.
  • Prepare pay run reports, adjustments and off-cycle payments to support accurate and timely processing.
  • Identify and resolve payroll data or timesheet discrepancies, escalating issues when required.
  • Support continuous improvement and maintain accurate service records and payroll processes.

As a Payroll Officer, you’ll be part of our Payroll Services Team within Serco’s ASPAC Shared Service model, supporting the end-to-end delivery of payroll across our contracts. You’ll maintain and update HR and payroll master data, provide administration and operational support to the Payroll Specialist, and respond to payroll queries from employees, managers and P&C teams. You’ll play an important role in ensuring payroll is accurate, compliant and delivered on time across multiple awards, employment types and jurisdictions.

As a Payroll Officer in the Payroll Services team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
  • Managing payroll transactions across the employee lifecycle, including new starters, changes and terminations.
  • Maintaining accurate employee payroll and HR data, including allowances, deductions, super and tax changes.
