You will deliver expert payroll advice across diverse industries, ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, and support clients through end-to-end processing and system improvements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in payroll consultant or similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation (Fair Work Act, Superannuation, STP Phase 2, PAYG).
• Experience with modern awards and enterprise agreements.
• Proficiency with payroll software across platforms (Employment Hero, Deputy, Xero).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain complex payroll matters.
• Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Advise on payroll compliance, awards, EEAs, superannuation, and Payday Super.
• Gather payroll information, resolve discrepancies, respond to queries.
• Ensure compliance with legislation like Fair Work Act, Super Guarantee, STP, PAYG.
• Prepare and review payroll reports and reconciliations, fix errors.
• Support payroll system implementations and improve processes.
• Maintain accurate payroll records per statutory requirements.
• Identify payroll risks and propose practical solutions.
• Collaborate with HR4Business team to deliver high-quality service.

Job description

HR4Business is looking for an experienced Payroll Consultant to join our team in Brisbane. The role starts on a casual basis, with a genuine view to moving into a permanent position as our client base grows. You'll give clients expert payroll advice and support and help them stay compliant with Australian payroll legislation and best practice. You'll work across a diverse client portfolio in a range of industries, with the flexibility a casual start offers and a clear pathway to something longer term.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients, making sure every pay run is accurate and on time
• Advise clients on payroll compliance, including award and enterprise agreement interpretation, superannuation obligations and Payday Super requirements
• Liaise with clients to gather payroll information, resolve discrepancies and respond to payroll queries
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Fair Work Act 2009, Superannuation Guarantee legislation, Single Touch Payroll and taxation requirements
• Prepare and review payroll reports and reconciliations, identifying and correcting errors
• Support payroll system implementations and help clients improve their payroll processes
• Maintain accurate payroll records in line with statutory record-keeping requirements
• Identify payroll risks, including underpayment exposure, and recommend practical solutions
• Work with the broader HR4Business team to deliver consistent, high-quality service to our clients

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Payroll Consultant or in a similar payroll role, ideally in a bureau or service provider environment
• In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, including the Fair Work Act, Superannuation Guarantee, STP Phase 2 and PAYG obligations
• Strong working knowledge of modern awards and enterprise agreements and how they apply in payroll
• Proficiency with payroll software; experience across multiple platforms, Employment Hero, Deputy and Xero is highly regarded
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll matters clearly to clients and colleagues
• The ability to manage multiple client accounts at once and meet tight deadlines
