Sharp & Carter is seeking a Payroll Compliance Officer for a 12‑month fixed term contract in Melbourne. The role is office-based with a flexible 3 days in the office and 2 days from home, aligned to a hybrid work model in Melbourne CBD.

You will ensure payroll compliance across a multi-entity environment, oversee statutory obligations, and support governance and process improvements within payroll, including SAP ECP. A strong focus on accuracy and regulatory adherence is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum experience in payroll compliance or governance roles.
• Familiarity with Australian payroll legislation, awards and enterprise agreements is essential.
• SAP ECP or SAP SuccessFactors experience is advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Validate payroll outputs and calculations before lodgement.
• Prepare and lodge Payroll Tax obligations across multiple entities.
• Manage third-party remittances and statutory obligations.
• Ensure compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Superannuation and Fair Work obligations.
• Review compliance activities performed by Payroll Officers and assist with audits.

The Organisation

Our client is a large, nationally recognised organisation undergoing significant payroll transformation and process improvement initiatives. With a strong commitment to operational excellence, compliance and continuous improvement, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Compliance Officer to play a critical role in maintaining payroll integrity across a complex, multi-entity environment.

The Position

Reporting to the Payroll Lead, the Payroll Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring payroll compliance across the organisation's payroll operations. This role will focus on validating payroll outputs, overseeing statutory obligations, managing third-party remittances, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, awards and enterprise agreements.

Working closely with payroll team members and key stakeholders, you will

• provide specialist compliance oversight while supporting governance, controls and process improvement initiatives within the payroll function.

Key Responsibilities

• Validate payroll compliance outputs and calculations prior to lodgement
• Prepare, reconcile and lodge Payroll Tax obligations across multiple entities
• Manage third-party remittances including Portable Long Service Leave, Income Protection, Redundancy Funds and other statutory obligations
• Ensure payroll practices remain compliant with Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Superannuation legislation, Payroll Tax requirements and Fair Work obligations
• Review and validate compliance-related payroll activities completed by Payroll Officers
• Investigate and resolve payroll compliance queries and escalations
• Support payroll governance, controls, reconciliations and audit activities
• Contribute to payroll system and process improvement initiatives, particularly within SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP)
• Provide payroll processing support during periods of leave and peak workloads

Skills & Experience

• Prior experience within payroll, payroll compliance, or a similar payroll governance role
• While not essential, experience with SAP SuccessFactors ECP would be advantageous
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and statutory obligations
• Demonstrated experience with Payroll Tax, Superannuation, PAYG and Single Touch Payroll reporting
• Experience managing third-party remittances and compliance reporting requirements
• Strong analytical, reconciliation and data validation skills
• High attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines in a complex environment
• Payroll qualifications or professional payroll certifications will be highly regarded
