Job summary

Cognizant in Sydney is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of secure, high-performing payments platforms. You will own outcomes from build through go-live and production support, collaborating with Product Managers, Solution Architects, Operations, and Australian clients.

You will mentor an engineering team, drive end-to-end delivery, run discussions with clients, handle incident triage, and champion CI/CD and deployment automation.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial software engineering experience at principal or staff level.
• Strong backend expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with microservices and API design.
• Solid payments domain knowledge including authorisation, settlement, refunds, and chargebacks.
• Experience with payment gateways or orchestration platforms and PCI-DSS compliant systems.
• Willingness to participate in on-call and handle high-pressure live environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor an engineering team while shaping solution design and backend services.
• Own end-to-end delivery including go-live and post-production support.
• Act as client-facing technical leader, aligning with local stakeholders.
• Drive incident triage and root cause analysis with Operations and clients.
• Guide agile execution and promote CI/CD and deployment automation.
