Job summary

Shift, a fintech in Australia, seeks Head of Payment Operations to build and scale payment operations, reducing regulatory, reputational, and fraud risk while leading a team handling Direct Entry and NPP, with expansion into rails such as card issuing, BPAY, and PayTo.

You will collaborate with Product and Technology to mature monitoring, governance, and incident response, recruit and manage a 24/7 team, and establish vendor governance with SLAs. Based in North Sydney with flexible work policy.

Qualifications

• Experience embedding payment operations in regulated financial services.
• Expertise with Direct Entry and NPP payment rails.
• Strong regulatory fluency and translating requirements into controls.
• Experience managing vendors and SLAs in payments context.
• Proven people leadership and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable payment ops processes across Direct Entry and NPP.
• Enhance transaction monitoring with risk-based detection.
• Grow fraud monitoring in partnership with Product and Tech.
• Build disputes and chargeback capabilities per rules.
• Recruit, lead a 24/7 payment ops team.
• Establish payment ops policies, governance, and controls.
• Oversee SLAs with vendors and infra partners.
• Define KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
• Report on performance and risk to leadership.
