Job summary

AECOM seeks an experienced Technical Director, Pavements to join Sydney or Melbourne team and provide technical leadership across Aviation & Pavements.

This role suits a pavement specialist with 20+ years’ experience who enjoys advising clients, solving complex engineering challenges and developing others. From early investigations to construction support, you’ll guide decisions to improve pavement performance and whole‑of‑life value, while growing AECOM’s pavements capability.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with 20+ years’ pavement engineering experience, including consulting exposure.
• Deep expertise in pavement design, evaluation, rehabilitation, materials and construction methods.
• Strong track record delivering complex pavement projects across aviation, highways, ports, defence or heavy infrastructure.
• Thorough knowledge of Australian standards, design methodologies and pavement investigation techniques.
• Chartered status and RPEQ registration, or eligibility to obtain.
• Experience providing technical assurance, leading multidisciplinary teams and managing scope, budget and risk.
• Strong client relationships and ability to convert specialist knowledge into actionable advice.
• Collaborative leadership to develop others and grow AECOM's pavements practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead pavement engineering on major infrastructure projects with technical direction across flexible and rigid pavement design.
• Oversee independent technical reviews and quality of designs, specs and reports.
• Advise clients on complex pavement challenges with practical recommendations.
• Manage design interfaces, technical risks and project delivery with multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor engineers and technical leaders to build specialist knowledge.
• Help grow the pavements practice through knowledge sharing across national and global networks.
