Job summary

QML Pathology in Townsville is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support accurate processing of pathology specimens in specimen reception. You will register specimens, ensure correct handling and dispatch to core laboratories to help maintain turnaround times and reliable results.

The ideal candidate may have prior laboratory or healthcare exposure. Qualifications in pathology or lab skills are desirable, along with strong time management and the ability to follow structured processes and

• Qualification in pathology, laboratory skills or laboratory techniques is desirable.
• Strong time management and the ability to follow structured processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Receive, check and process specimens with high accuracy.
• Complete data entry and register specimens into lab systems.
• Prepare and dispatch specimens to core laboratories within required timeframes.
• Manage enquiries via phone and shared mailboxes, escalating as needed.
• Coordinate urgent specimen handling and courier collections.
• Maintain laboratory records, storage and filing processes.
• Participate in routine quality activities and follow procedures.
• Ensure compliance with WHS policies and maintain a safe working environment.
