Job summary

Queensland Government is seeking a Clinical Assistant to support high-quality pathology services at QEII Hospital and Pathology Queensland. You will perform phlebotomy and specimen reception, liaise with staff and patients, and ensure accurate data entry and specimen handling in line with policies.

You will work across day/evening/weekend shifts, maintain competencies, and participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care. AUSLAB and ieMR experience is desired.

Qualifications

• Experience with phlebotomy and specimen collection in a clinical lab environment.
• Familiar with data entry and specimen processing workflows.
• Knowledge of quality standards and infection control practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy collections on wards and outpatient areas.
• Liaise with patients and hospital staff to ensure correct collection of specimens.
• Collect high-quality blood and non-blood specimens as requested.
• Perform routine lab duties including receipt of specimens, data entry, packing, and inventory control.
• Prioritise workloads to meet turnaround time targets.
• Develop knowledge of AUSLAB and ieMR.
• Maintain equipment and workstations per infection control policies.
• Work independently and as part of a team across rostered day/evening/weekend shifts.
• Participate in quality and service improvement activities and staff training.
