Job summary

St Vincent’s Health Australia is seeking a pathology specimen collector to provide accurate collection, handling and labelling of specimens. You will greet patients, verify information and ensure proper documentation and transport of samples to the appropriate destinations.

Shifts are available across AM and PM, seven days a week, with flexible locations around Melbourne. Prior pathology collection experience is desirable, and a Certificate III/IV in Pathology Collection is preferred.

• Certificate III/IV in Pathology Collection.
• Experience in pathology collection is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collect, care for, store, package and label pathology specimens.
• Provide high quality pathology service to requesting doctors and patients.
• Greet patients and interview to ascertain ID and information.
• Explain procedures and provide written instructions.
• Collect specimens, label containers, store and transport as required.
• Courier specimens/reports to required destinations when needed.

About the Role

You will be accountable for:

• Correctly collecting, caring, storing, packaging and labelling pathology specimens
• Providing a high quality pathology service to requesting doctors and patients
• Greeting patients in a friendly and courteous manner and interviewing patients to ascertain key information for identification purposes
• Referring Doctor/s information
• Collection of category and billing information
• Explaining procedures to patient and providing written instructions as appropriate
• Collecting the required specimen(s), place in suitably labelled containers, fix laboratory number stickers, store and transport appropriately
• Couriering specimens / reports from the collection location to the required destination if required

Salary Range: Collector Grade 2 IN24 - $31.65

Your Contribution Certificate 3 or 4 in Pathology Collection

Experience in a Pathology collection service is highly desirable, preferably previous experience in the points listed above.

About Pathology

St Vincent’s Pathology is a private practice offering diagnostic testing to both inpatients of St Vincent’s Private Hospitals located in Fitzroy, East Melbourne and Kew, St Vincent’s Public Hospital Fitzroy as well as servicing privately referred patients in up to 80 Pathology Collection centres located across Metropolitan Melbourne.
