Job summary

Uniting NSW & ACT is seeking a part-time Mental Health Support Worker to provide one-to-one emotional support, develop tailored plans for carers and run carer groups in the Tuggerah area. You will deliver education, advocate for families, and collaborate with local services to broaden access to recovery-oriented supports.

The role requires a Certificate IV in Mental Health or related field, experience with carers and NDIs, and the ability to work independently within a team.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Mental Health or Community Services or equivalent qualification.
• Students studying Social Work, Psychology or Counselling will be considered.
• Understanding of carers’ needs and challenges.
• Ability to facilitate support groups for families and carers.
• Understanding and application of Recovery Oriented Practice.
• Ability to develop individual support plans with carers.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• NSW Working with Children Check
• Mental Health First Aid or equivalent
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Experience providing individual advocacy for families and carers of people with mental illness
• Completion of ASIST training and/or suicide prevention
• Experience with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
• Advanced knowledge of local community service networks.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one emotional support to carers and help them cope.
• Facilitate carer support groups in a safe, welcoming space.
• Deliver education and training on mental health conditions and practical strategies.
• Manage referrals and a caseload, working autonomously to tailor support.
• Promote the program across the community by building relationships with local services.
