Job summary

Busways is seeking an experienced Panel Beater / Body Builder to lead a depot team at our Ryde location. You will assess damage, replace panels, weld, fabricate, and ensure repairs meet OEM specifications on a diverse fleet.

The role requires MVTC qualifications and a Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology, plus a current Australian driver’s licence. Attractive earnings with overtime and development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Hold the relevant trade qualifications (MVTC) essential.
  • Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology.
  • Proven experience as a Body Builder/Panel Beater on large vehicles.
  • Experience in vehicle service and maintenance (training provided).
  • Strong knowledge of bus body construction repair techniques including welding and metalworking.
  • Adherence to WHS regulations and company policies.
  • Good verbal and written communication; team player.

Responsibilities

  • Assess damage to bus body panels and structures; provide accurate repair estimates.
  • Remove and replace damaged panels, hoods, fenders and other components.
  • Weld and fabricate as needed to restore structural integrity to OEM specs.
  • Blend and finish repaired areas for painting; ensure a smooth, uniform finish.
  • Prepare and clean surfaces prior to painting; include filing, grinding and sanding as required.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to body components, panels, frames and doors.
  • Demonstrate clean workshop practices and adhere to safety standards.

Panel Beater / Body Builder

This key role will assist in ongoing support of innovative practices as we continue to strive towards being an industry leader in the maintenance of our fleet. Come on board with Busways as a Panel Beater / Body Builder at our Ryde Depot.

What We Offer
  • Earning Potential: $110,000 - $120,000+ including reasonable overtime loading and generous allowances Inclusive of super
  • $38.58 - $42.45 per hour, depending on skills and experienceâ¯
  • Tool Allowance: $20.61 payable weekly
  • Attendance Allowance: $30.15 payable on rostered worked hours
  • Annual Leave: loading of 17.5% - 20% (dependent on consecutive shift type and pattern)
  • Up to 5 weeks annual leave (dependent on consecutive shift type and pattern)
  • 15 days sick leave accrued annually.
  • Eligible for long service leave after 7 years
  • Other applicable allowances payable as engaged listed in the relevant industrial instrument.

Role Responsibilities

This role requires a mature and professional approach with excellent communication skills. Your main duties will include:

  • Assess damage to the bus body panels and structures , providing accurate estimates for repair work.
  • Remove and replace damaged panels, hoods, fenders, and other body components using hand and power tools
  • Straighten and repair bent or damaged frame and body structure ensuring it complies with OEM specifications Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to restore structure.
  • Blend and finish repaired areas to prepare for painting, ensuring a smooth and uniform finish.
  • Undertaking the preparation and cleaning of all surfaces prior to any paint application taking place, this may include filing, grinding, and sanding the body of a vehicle to restore a smooth vehicle surface.
  • Provide all body structural, accident damage and associated repairs, service and maintenance to vehicles as required. Work on associated components to complete whole tasks within the skill level of the position.
  • Provide maintenance, preparation, replacement and repairs to all vehicle body components, panels, frames, and door systems.
  • Manufacture, service, and fit vehicle components constructed from such materials as aluminum, timber, steel, stainless steel, glass, fiberglass, sealing and bonding materials.
  • Demonstrating and maintaining clean workshop practices in your day-to-day role and ensuring that these practices meet the high standards held by the Workshops team.
  • Ensuring that all maintenance and repairs are performed according to company policies and procedures and are recorded on the designated forms and documents provided.
  • Maintaining and performing all workshop practices in a manner that adheres to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.

Our workshop staff play a critical role within the business to ensure our ever-evolving fleet of vehicles are continually maintained to the highest standard to keep our staff and passengers safe out on the road.

You can expect to be provided with all necessary training, this will include relevant information about our various makes and models of vehicles to ensure a thorough understanding of standards required to meet contract obligations.

The Successful Applicant Will
  • Hold the relevant trade qualifications (MVTC) essential.
  • Certificate lll in Automotive Body Repair Technology
  • Proven experience as a Body Builder/Panel Beater particular with larger vehicles
  • Have experience in the service and maintenance of vehicles (training provided to develop these skills)
  • Strong knowledge of the bus body construction repair techniques including welding and metalworking
  • Ensure adherence and understanding to WHS regulations and relevant company policies.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have experience working in a team environment on daily maintenance and repair schedules.
  • Apply a proactive approach with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Be physically fit to carry out the necessities of the role.
  • Willing to undergo a pre-employment medical check, criminal history check and working with children check.
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have unrestricted working rights in Australia.
  • Hold a current Unrestricted Australian driver’s licence issued by the relevant State.
Highly Regarded but Not Necessary
  • Medium Rigid (MR) or above Australian driver’s licence
