Qualifications

• Trade qualification in surface preparation and coating application
• Certificate or equivalent experience in painting and decorating
• White Card and current driver license
• Ability to obtain Defence security clearance and pass medical/drug test

Responsibilities

• Prepare ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces via blasting and mechanical prep
• Apply protective coatings by brush, roller and spray methods
• Mix and apply epoxy and flooring systems where required
• Document work in accordance with the management system
• Work in confined spaces and at heights under permit
• Ensure compliance with WHS, inductions and Defence procedures

Job Description

Favcote Pty Ltd Favcote Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Blaster / Painter to join our Sydney team working at the Garden Island Defence Precinct and wider NSW. The role covers surface preparation and the application of protective coating systems on naval vessels, marine structures and industrial assets. You will work alongside qualified applicators and supervisors on long-term Defence and industrial contracts, applying coatings to manufacturer and task specific specifications and documenting the work under our integrated management system.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who takes pride in the quality of the finished surface and who works safely in a controlled, security-sensitive environment. Benefits Permanent full-time position with ongoing work across Defence, marine and industrial projects. Above award remuneration plus superannuation.

All personal protective equipment and specialised blasting and coating equipment supplied. Paid training and support to obtain and maintain relevant tickets and licences (including Cert III in surface prep & coating applications) Career progression to Leading Hand, Supervisor and Team Leader roles. Task & responsibilities Prepare ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces using dry abrasive blasting andmechanical preparation to the required standard.

Apply protective coating systems by brush and roller and spray-painting equipment methods in accordance with manufacturer and task specific specifications. Apply epoxy and specialised flooring systems in marine and industrial environments. Carry out surface preparation and coating works in situ on client sites and on vessels.

Conduct pre-application checks on equipment, containment and environmental controls. Record work completed and inspection results in accordance with the integrated management system. Work in confined spaces and at heights where required, under permit.

Comply at all times with WHS requirements, site inductions and Defence security procedures. Qualification & experience Demonstrated experience in abrasive blasting, mechanical surface preparation and the application of protective coating systems. Trade qualification in surface preparation and coating application, or equivalent demonstrated experience (CERT III in surface prep & Coating applications Certificate III in Painting and Decorating is preferred).

White Card and current driver licence. Working at heights and confined space tickets, or willingness to obtain. Ability to obtain a Defence security clearance and to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

Sound understanding of coating specifications, film thickness measurement and quality documentation. Good written and spoken English for reporting and site communication.
