Job summary

Ballina Shire Council on the Far North Coast of New South Wales is offering a two-year traineeship for a Trainee Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This role provides practical experience operating, monitoring and maintaining treatment facilities while completing a relevant course.

No prior water experience is required. You will receive on-the-job mentoring, training, and course costs covered by the Council, helping you build a career in the water industry with a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council’s values.
• Ability to undertake Certificate III in Water Industry Treatment, Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or equivalent under a traineeship arrangement.
• Demonstrated interest, capacity and commitment to develop knowledge of water and wastewater treatment operations including adherence to regulatory, health environmental and safety requirements such knowledge under a traineeship arrangement.
• Demonstrated experience in and ability to undertake physical labouring duties.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Class C driver licence with an ability to operate a manual transmission.
• Willingness and ability to work on call in accordance with roster requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop practical skills in operating, monitoring and maintaining treatment plant facilities.
• Learn about water and wastewater treatment processes, safety requirements and environmental standards.
• Gain hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification and building a career in the water industry.
• No previous experience in water or wastewater treatment is required; keen to learn and develop skills.
