Job summary

Port Macquarie Hastings Council is offering a full-time two-year Water Operations Traineeship. You will complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations with paid study time at Wauchope or Taree TAFE, while gaining hands-on experience in water and wastewater infrastructure.

Two trainee positions are available, including one for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, and you will work on treatment plants, pump stations, inspections, and network maintenance, laying a foundation

Qualifications

• Willing to learn on the job and ask questions.
• Able to commit to study requirements and complete training on time.
• Team player with strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Safety-conscious and able to work safely for self and others.
• Hold a current general construction induction card (white card) or able to obtain prior to commencement.

Responsibilities

• Operate and learn about water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Assist with pump station maintenance and inspections.
• Participate in wastewater manhole inspections and network maintenance.
• Support dam and catchment surveillance activities.
• Develop specialised skills for a career in utilities or local government.
