Job summary

Sharp & Carter is assisting a well‑established Australian manufacturer in Rhodes NSW to hire a Purchasing Officer focused on packaging. The role is hands‑on, operating within a lean procurement team with responsibility for end‑to‑end purchasing of packaging materials.

You will manage purchase orders, liaise with suppliers, and align material requirements with MRP and production schedules. Packaging artwork and customer requirements will come into play, with ERP data maintained to support

Qualifications

• Around 2–5 years' hands-on purchasing or procurement experience, ideally in manufacturing, FMCG or food.
• Packaging procurement experience strongly preferred, including longer lead times, artwork approvals, customer requirements and external supplier management.
• Strong administration and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
• Confident working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Proactive, energetic and keen to take ownership.
• Comfortable with Excel and ERP systems. Dynamics 365 experience is beneficial but not essential, as the system is easy to pick up.
• No strategic or category management experience required.

Responsibilities

• Managing purchase orders end to end, from placement through to delivery
• Working with suppliers to schedule and expedite deliveries, manage backorders and keep lead times under control
• Reviewing material requirements against MRP and production schedules, and flagging issues to internal teams early
• Sourcing quotes and managing day-to-day supplier relationships
• Supporting packaging procurement, including custom packaging
• Coordinating artwork and marketing requirements with customers and third parties
• Maintaining ERP item master data and procurement records
• Negotiating with packaging suppliers
