Job summary

Inverell Shire Council is seeking a General Duties Officer to join the Environmental Services team. You will work across environmental health, landfill operations and parks & gardens, with duties including animal control, biosecurity and customer service.

Roles involve field enquiries, basic maintenance, and potential weekend shifts. Training will be provided; prior experience in similar roles is valued. Salary is aligned to the Local Government Award.

Qualifications

• NSW School Certificate / RoSA or equivalent.
• NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
• Understanding of Work Health and Safety Regulations.
• Willingness to undertake training in environmental compliance, landfill and weighbridge operations, and biosecurity control.
• Experience with operation of small machinery such as mowers.
• SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (White Card).
• Understanding of chemical application procedures relating to pesticides and herbicides.
• Demonstrated ability to handle companion animals with confidence.
• Previous related experience.

Responsibilities

• Assisting administrative and technical staff with field enquiries.
• Undertaking tasks related to rural addressing post location and erection.
• Delivery of bins and investigation of damage complaints.
• Conducting minor maintenance tasks at Inverell Town Hall.
• Assisting in the handling of companion animal issues and the operation of Council's companion animal facility.
• Participation in a rotating on-call roster for handling compliance concerns raised by the public.
• Routine maintenance and grounds keeping at Council's Administration Centre, and assisting Parks & Gardens staff.
• Assisting with biosecurity functions and weighbridge operations at the landfill.
• Relieving in other roles as allocated by the Manager Environmental Health.
