Job summary

Gransolar Group in Brisbane is seeking an OT Network & I&C Specialist to protect the reliability, performance and security of OT networks and SCADA across our utility-scale solar assets. You will work with site I&C technicians, OEMs and IT to ensure robust communications between field devices and plant-level systems.

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Engineering, networking, automation or similar.
• Five years of experience in PV plant construction performing OT/IC tasks.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure (Layer 2/3, TCP/IP).
• Familiarity with Modbus TCP, DNP3 or equivalent industrial protocols.
• Available to travel 25-30%.

• Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot plant-level industrial communication networks (Switching & routing).
• Monitor network performance and availability to ensure reliable real-time telemetry.
• Implement and maintain Layer 2/3 configurations; standardise network design across portfolio.
• Support diagnosis and resolution of faults between OT network infrastructure and control systems (PLCs, RTUs, SCADA).
• Collaborate with site I&C personnel during fault-finding and restoration activities.
• Commissioning activities; plant expansions or retrofits.
• Review and validate as-built network documentation to ensure compliance with Gransolar standards.
• Act as liaison with OEMs and vendors for equipment issues, firmware updates and warranty claims.

The Role

The OT Network & I&C Specialist is responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance, and security of operational technology (OT) networks and associated SCADA systems across GRS’s utility-scale solar portfolio.

This role forms part of the central I&C team and supports the operation and maintenance phase of assets. The position ensures the integrity of communication systems linking field devices (inverters, trackers, meteorological stations) to plant-level and central SCADA systems.

The role interfaces closely with site based I&C technicians, engineering teams, OEM vendors, and the corporate IT function to ensure:

• Implementation of appropriate OT cyber security controls

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot plant-level industrial communication networks, including:

Managed switches and routers

• Monitor network performance and availability to ensure reliable real-time telemetry across the plant
• Implement and maintain:

Layer 2/Layer 3 configurations

• Support standardisation of network design and configuration across the portfolio

Control Systems & Field Support

• Support diagnosis and resolution of communication faults between OT network infrastructure and control systems (PLCs, RTUs, SCADA interfaces)
• Work collaboratively with site I&C personnel during fault-finding and restoration activities

Commissioning activities

Plant expansions or retrofits

• Review and validate “as-built” network documentation to ensure compliance with GRS standards
• Act as technical liaison with OEMs and vendors for:

Equipment issues

Firmware updates

Warranty claims

OT Cyber Security Implementation

Port security

Firmware and patching compliance

• Basic firewall configuration (where applicable)
• Support the implementation of OT cyber security requirements in alignment with internal standards
• Coordinate with corporate IT, recognising clear ownership boundaries:

IT retains responsibility for identity and access management (IAM)

OT focuses on network resilience and device-level protection

Skills & Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Engineering, networking, automation or similar degree.
• Five years of experience in the construction of photovoltaic plants doing the described functions.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including:
• Switching and routing (Layer 2/Layer 3)
• TCP/IP networking
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP, DNP3 or equivalent)
• Experience with network monitoring or management systems
• Available to travel 25-30%
