Job description

Position Type: Out of School Hours Care – Educational Leader / 3IC

Employment Status: Permanent/Ongoing

Classification Level: ESO3

  • Take the next step in your OSHC career by working closely with an experienced OSHC Director and the OSHC 2IC in a key leadership role. As Educational Leader / 3IC, you'll have opportunities to lead quality improvement initiatives, mentor staff, contribute to service management and undertake Educational Leader responsibilities.
  • Be part of a service that focuses on creating a safe, engaging and nurturing environment where children thrive. You'll play an important role in implementing the My Time, Our Place V2.0 framework and shaping enriching experiences for children before school, after school and during vacation care.
  • Join a welcoming school community where relationships, wellbeing and Catholic values are at the heart of everything we do. You'll enjoy being part of a collaborative team committed to high-quality care and positive outcomes for children and families.
The Opportunity

An exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced OSHC professional to work closely with the Director, influence service quality, mentor staff and make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families.

The successful applicant must be available to work during all Vacation Care programs, as this is an essential requirement of the role.

During the school term, the role will typically consist of three split shifts and one block shift per week, with 5 - 7 hours allocated to Educational Leader (EL) responsibilities and 13 - 15 hours allocated to direct floor work and administrative duties. While this allocation will generally remain consistent, hours may be adjusted on occasion to support the operational needs of our service; however, a minimum of 5 hours per week will always be dedicated to Educational Leader responsibilities during the term, which exceeds the minimum regulatory requirement, unless otherwise advised by OSHC Leadership prior. During Vacation Care, the split shift and block shift arrangement may vary to meet service requirements and planned activities, with dedicated Educational Leader time to be negotiated and scheduled accordingly.

  • This role is guided by the ACECQA Educational Leader Resource, which serves as the key framework and principal reference guide for educational leadership practice. The successful applicant will be required to work in alignment with this resource, using it to inform mentoring, reflective practice, curriculum decision-making and continuous improvement across the service. https://www.acecqa.gov.au/sites/default/files/2019-03/TheEducationalLeaderResource.pdf
  • Applicants must hold an ACECQA-approved Tier 1 qualification and be willing to become a Responsible Person (RP) within our service.
  • The position will consist of a combination of on-the-floor and off-the-floor duties, including leadership responsibilities and the responsibilities of the Educational Leader role.
  • As part of the application process, candidates are required to submit an example OSHC term, weekly program / curriculum plan that demonstrates their understanding of and ability to apply, the My Time, Our Place (MTOP V2) framework. This does not need to be a comprehensive document; rather, it should provide insight into the applicant's planning approach, understanding of the framework and the skills, ideas and strengths they would bring to the role.
Key Responsibilities Include
Support the leadership and daily operations of the OSHC service
  • Work closely with the OSHC Director to ensure the smooth and effective operation of Before School Care, After School Care and Vacation Care programs.
Lead educational programming and quality practice
  • Oversee the implementation and evaluation of the My Time, Our Place V2.0 framework and National Quality Standards, supporting engaging and enriching experiences for children.
Drive compliance and continuous improvement
  • Monitor service compliance with ACECQA and National Quality Framework requirements, contribute to the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), and support assessment and rating processes.
Mentor and support a high-performing team
  • Assist with staff training, development and rostering, fostering a positive team culture that delivers high-quality care and supervision for children.
About You

We are seeking someone who will bring:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, wellbeing and development.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide, mentor and support a team.
  • Sound knowledge of the National Quality Framework, National Quality Standards and My Time, Our Place.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with confidence.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all children and families.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues and the wider school community.
