Job summary

A large Melbourne organisation is seeking a hands-on Oracle PL/SQL developer to own a complex, business-critical application estate on a 12-month contract. You'll be hands-on, learning and maintaining a legacy environment with vendor and in-house components, operating with minimal supervision.

You'll design, develop, test and maintain Oracle PL/SQL solutions, perform root cause analysis, produce technical documentation, and work within a structured SDLC.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Oracle PL/SQL development experience required.
• Effective SQL tuning and performance analysis skills.
• Experience working inside a large, established codebase.
• Strong independent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with structured SDLC, code reviews, and version control.

Responsibilities

• Root cause analysis and defect resolution on difficult application and database issues

Job description

A large Melbourne organisation is looking for a hands-on Oracle PL/SQL developer to take on a complex, business-critical application estate on a 12-month contract.

It's a genuine legacy environment with years of change layered on top of each other, across a mix of vendor products and in-house builds. You'd be the person who learns it properly, keeps it running, and untangles it as you go. The person who currently holds it together is moving onto a major program, so they need someone who can take it off him and stand on their own reasonably quickly.

This is hands-on development. No architecture, no team leadership, you'll be in the code every day, solving hard problems with minimal supervision.

What you'll be doing

• Design, develop, test and maintain Oracle and PL/SQL solutions across a complex, high-availability portfolio
• Root cause analysis and defect resolution on difficult application and database issues
• Produce technical documentation - solution designs, deployment guides, operational support docs
• Work through a structured SDLC with design governance, code review and change management
• Support environment stability, deployments and vendor release activity

What you'll bring

• Deep, current Oracle PL/SQL development packages, procedures, schema design
• SQL performance analysis and tuning
• Experience inside a large, established codebase rather than greenfield builds
