Job summary

AARNet is seeking an Infrastructure Delivery Engineer to join the Technical Operations team and advance Australia’s academic and research fibre network. You will work with engineers and field technicians to design, deploy and manage optical and IP facilities across the country, ensuring reliable services for researchers, educators and staff.

The role involves hands-on engagement with DWDM, data centres and field deployments, with opportunities for growth and training in evolving technologies.

Qualifications

  • Australian citizen.
  • Previous telco or similar infrastructure experience.
  • Previous DWDM and IP switching experience.
  • Familiarity with data centres, exchanges, CEV or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with common telecommunications operational processes.
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel.
  • Strong logical, numerical and spatial reasoning; able to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support optical and facilities engineering activities for AARNet’s network, including design, delivery and deployment of new DWDM optical and IP switching services and facilities, plus upgrades and replacements.
  • Collaborate with technical experts on analysis and design tasks to support delivery, commissioning, operation and maintenance of physical facilities such as CEVs, telco huts, data centres and street cabinets.
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and upgrades of network equipment, including after-hours work; coordinate rollout of new technologies across Technical Operations and AARNet.
  • Maintain internal data systems with fibre optical network and facilities data; produce technical documentation as required.
  • Work with internal and contractor field Network Engineers and technicians to achieve tangible outcomes.
  • Assist with design and documentation for power systems, solar, generators, and their commissioning and maintenance.
  • Handle other administration activities for Facilities Engineering, Field and contractor teams as required.
