Job summary

AARNet is seeking a Telecommunications Fibre Designer to support the design and delivery of new fibre network builds, customer connections and network relocations. You will work with project teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You'll bring a solid understanding of telecommunications fibre networks and the ability to interpret engineering and civil construction documentation.

The Role: Telecommunications Fibre Designer

AARNet is seeking a Fibre Designer to support the design and delivery of new fibre network builds, customer connections and network relocations.

Working closely with construction and project teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You will bring a solid understanding of telecommunications fibre networks and the ability to interpret engineering and civil construction documentation, with knowledge of civil works and construction methodologies highly regarded.

As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to fibre route planning, design development, construction support and the delivery of network infrastructure to new and existing customers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Arrange and undertake field inspections and network scoping to investigate existing infrastructure and capture accurate survey data.
• Develop and draft optical fibre network solutions, including network routes, infrastructure and associated assets, to support new builds, customer connections and network relocations.
• Design fibre network projects in accordance with federal and state legislation, regulatory requirements, industry standards and relevant codes of practice.
• Prepare accurate quantity construction cost estimates and customer quotations for fibre network projects.
• Facilitate workshops and design meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project requirements and design outcomes.
• Work closely with Telstra and NBN customer access network teams to ensure compliance with access requirements and applicable design and construction standards within their networks.
• Experience in telecommunications network design and planning, including fibre network infrastructure and associated civil works.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrate a high level of autonomy, self-management and initiative, with the ability to effectively priorities and manage competing tasks and deliverables.
• Knowledge and understanding of Telstra and nbn systems, processes and customer access networks.
• Understanding of the Telecommunications Act, relevant Codes of Practice and land access requirements applicable to telecommunications infrastructure design and deployment.
• Strong commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS), with a high level of awareness and focus on maintaining a safe working environment.
• Experience with AutoCAD is desirable and will be considered an advantage.
• Current and valid Australian driver’s license.
• Current White Card (Construction Induction Card) is required.
• Must be eligible to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
• Australian Citizenship is required for this role.
