Job summary

Sims Metal Management Ltd. is seeking an Operator for the Day Shift (9:00am - 5:00pm) to support our recycling facility in Sydney.

You will work with customers, drivers, and the operations team to receive, process, and organise recyclable materials while maintaining a safe yard environment. Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will operate a forklift, assist with traffic management, and ensure materials are handled safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

• Forklift licence is essential.
• Previous yard hand experience in waste/recycling preferred.
• Strong customer service skills and teamwork.
• Safety-focused and able to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Direct and assist customers, visitors, and delivery drivers within the yard.
• Operate a forklift to load, unload, and move materials safely.
• Manage traffic control and maintain a safe flow of vehicles throughout the site.
• Inspect, sort, and process incoming recyclable materials.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
• Identify and report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
• Assist with general yard duties and other operational tasks as required.
• Deliver outstanding customer service and represent the business professionally.

Operator - Day Shift (9:00am - 5:00pm)

Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of our recycling facility. This hands-on role will see you working closely with customers, drivers, and the operations team to receive, process, and organise recyclable materials while maintaining a safe and productive yard environment.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will assist with traffic management, operate a forklift, support customers on site, and ensure materials are handled safely and efficiently.

What you'll be doing:

• Direct and assist customers, visitors, and delivery drivers within the yard.
• Operate a forklift to load, unload, and move materials safely.
• Managing traffic control and maintaining a safe flow of vehicles throughout the site.
• Inspect, sort, and process incoming recyclable materials.

What you'll bring:

• Current Forklift Licence (essential).
• Previous yard hand experience, ideally within the waste, recycling, scrap metal, or a similar industrial environment.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people.
• A resilient, adaptable, and hands-on approach to work.
• Knowledge of traffic control would be highly regarded.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
