Job summary

The Geological Survey of NSW is seeking an Operations Officer to supervise the E.C. Andrews Drill Core Facility in Broken Hill. The role blends field operations with core management, visitor access, and facility maintenance.

Ideal candidates will have mining/exploration/drilling experience, drill core handling knowledge, and GIS/database skills, with the ability to work remotely and in remote locations. Hybrid work is supported.

• Salary ranges from $116,981.00 to $129,492.00 + super& leave loading
• All necessary tools, equipment, and applicable allowances will be provided for any required travel or field-based activities

The Geological Survey of NSW (part of NSW Resources) is seeking a motivated and skilled Operations Officer to supervise and manage the E.C. Andrews Drill Core Facility in Broken Hill.

About the

As the Operations Officer, Broken Hill Drill Core Facility, your role will be more than just geoscience. You’ll be responsible for overseeing facility operations, including core preparation, viewing, visitor access, and general maintenance.

You’ll also be responsible for:

• Supervising and managing the archival drill core collection, ensuring its preservation and accessibility.
• Liaising with industry, landholders, government agencies, and the community to deliver high-quality technical services and advice.
• Providing drill core expertise to support exploration programs and collaborate with other geoscientists.

About You

To be successful in this role you’ll need to have experience in the mining industry, exploration and drilling, combined with demonstrable knowledge of drill core handling and operating procedures in core yards, including safe management of equipment (Broken Hill regional expertise highly regarded

As our ideal candidate, you will bring:

• The willingness and ability to undertake field work in remote areas
• Moderate computer skills, including GIS and database management
• Experience with drill core handling, logging, rehabilitation, and/or archiving
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Essential Requirements

• Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence
• Hold and maintain a valid NSW forklift licence with suitable experience
• Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement
