Job summary

The SouthPAN Sustainment Operations Manager role on Lockheed Martin Space's SouthPAN program is based hybrid in Uralla/Armidale, Australia, with travel as needed. You will lead the operations team, maintain service availability, and ensure KPI targets are met in a regulated environment.

You will partner with engineering, logistics, program management, safety and security teams, delivering leadership in a 24/7 space infrastructure context, with a focus on SBAS/GNSS systems and flight-critical

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Telecommunications, Navigation, Physics, or Computer Engineering).
  • Experience in GNSS/SBAS systems.
  • Knowledge of SBAS formats, ionospheric/tropospheric correction models, and system engineering standards, plus ICAO Annex 10.
  • Experience with safety certification or security accreditation for space infrastructures.
  • Leadership experience of multidisciplinary teams in 24/7 operational environments.
  • Ability to deliver results under pressure and communicate with international stakeholders.

  • Reviews project status and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals.

  • Provide leadership to the SouthPAN operations team in a regulated environment using a service management framework.
  • Engage with stakeholders across engineering, logistics, program management, safety and security to minimise disruptions.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning and deeper level maintenance and configuration updates.
  • Oversee operation of ground segment subsystems, including reference stations, ground control stations, and uplink processing chains.

The Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN) Sustainment Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining a minimum mandated system service availability to the user segment. This availability must be maintained while ensuring quality of the service is meeting performance levels as defined in the list of mandatory KPIs. The role is also responsible for the providing leadership to the SouthPAN operations team and develop a culture that effectively performs the mission within a regulated environment using a service management framework.

Preferred location is Uralla/Armidale (Hybrid), with some travel required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
  • Plan and coordinate guidance to ensure that operational teams are kept informed of events that impact the execution of their roles.
  • Provide leadership to the SouthPAN operations team and develop a culture that effectively performs the mission within a regulated environment using a service management framework.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across engineering, logistics, program management, safety and security, to ensure operational impacts are understood and planned for to minimise any disruption to the system.
  • Work across system and subsystem stakeholders to ensure the integrity of scheduled maintenance, as well as for the planning of deeper level maintenance and configuration updates
  • Oversee the operation of ground segment subsystems, including reference stations (GRS), ground control stations, and uplink processing chains.
What you’ll bring
Essential
  • Minimum of a degree in Engineering (Aerospace), Telecommunications, or Navigation, Physics, or Computer Engineering
  • Previous experience in GNSS/SBAS systems
  • Extensive knowledge of SBAS message formats, ionospheric/tropospheric correction models, and system engineering standards, as well as ICAO Annex 10, Volume I
  • Extensive experience with safety certification or security accreditation for space infrastructures
  • Extensive leadership experience of multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure, 24/7 operational environments
  • Extensive ability to deliver results under pressure, excellent analytical problem-solving, and professional communication for international stakeholders and partners.
Desirable
  • Aviation experience, preferably as a pilot with flight time
  • Previous management skills associated with high demand, high intensity operations in a no fail system environment.
