Job summary

SPS Property Services Group seeks an Operations Manager to lead and grow the Sydney plumbing and roofing team. You will take ownership of day-to-day operations, work closely with the current manager, and implement system improvements to deliver excellent client service.

You will develop staff, manage budgets and margins, and drive ongoing professional growth as the business scales, with a clear handover and support period.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience as an Operations Manager or similar.
• Strong organisation and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Confident with margins, budgets and targets.

Responsibilities

Salary: $100k - $115K + Super + Annual increases of 2-4%

Reviews: Annual increases of 2% to 4% when KPIs are met

Hours: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. (Flexible on start and finish times)

Location: Peakhurst (South West Sydney)

About the role

This is a role for someone who wants to build a long career in operations management. You will step into a business with systems already in place but would also require your input to improve systems and make system improvements a task you own! You will work closely with our current manager during a handover period, and take ownership of the day to day running of the company. We are looking for someone who wants to learn, lead and take on responsibility, and help us keep delivering a wonderful service to our clients as we grow. You will be supported to develop your management skills over time, with real scope to progress.

What you will be responsible for

• Hiring, developing and building the team
• Improving systems and operations
• Staff reviews and regular check ins
• Inventory management
• Leading weekly and monthly meetings
• Approving staff weekly pay, working closely with our internal accounts person
• Reviewing and overseeing quotes, work orders and invoices alongside our internal staff and senior tradespeople

After hours support for pressing and urgent matters where required.

Key operational measures you will own

• Financial weekly and monthly reporting (working with our external and internal accountant)
• Revenue and gross margin performance against agreed weekly and monthly targets
• Meeting budget targets
• Net and GP performance
• Job profitability (using software)
• Labour productivity and operational costs maintained within approved budgets
• Purchasing maintained within approved requirements and budgets
• Customer orders fulfilled accurately and within agreed timeframes
• Installation and service work completed within agreed timeframes
• Customer complaints minimised and resolved promptly
• Warranty and defective-product issues monitored and resolved
• Workplace health and safety requirements consistently met
• Operational processes reviewed and improved on an ongoing basis

What you will need for this position:

A minimum of 3 years' experience as an Operations Manager or similar

Strong organisation and the ability to stay calm and clear under a busy workload

Confidence with numbers: margins, budgets and targets

A genuine focus on customer service and quality

The drive to grow with the company and develop as a leader

Experience working with a Job Management System such as ServiceM8 or Simpro (highly desirable but not a requirement)

Current driver's licence

Trade or construction industry experience is highly desirable but not a requirement
