Job summary

Eildon Boat Club is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and coordinate the Club's operational activities across marinas, grounds, maintenance and infrastructure at Lake Eildon.

You will oversee safety, compliance and asset management while collaborating with the Harbour Master and management team in a hands-on, practical role that sets high standards and drives continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Club's operational activities across marinas, grounds, maintenance, assets and infrastructure.
• Drive health and safety, compliance, asset maintenance and operational planning (ISO 45001 focused).
• Lead the Harbour Master and outdoor teams; act as liaison between General Manager and outdoor operations.
• Identify hazards, implement controls and monitor corrective actions to reduce workplace risk.
• Provide hands-on operational support during peak periods and significant projects.

Job description

For over 70 years, the iconic Eildon Boat Club has been providing its 1,000+ members and guests with first-rate facilities and a place to enjoy everything Lake Eildon and the surrounding region has to offer.

The Eildon Boat Club is the largest boat club of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Maintaining a facility of this scale and standard requires a dedicated team and constant work throughout the year.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced and detail-oriented Operations Manager to lead and coordinate the Club's operational activities at Lake Eildon.

This is a diverse and hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, efficient and professional delivery of services across the Club's marinas, grounds, maintenance, assets and infrastructure.

The Operations Manager will play a key role in leading the Club's health and safety, compliance, asset maintenance and operational planning, while maintaining a practical, hands-on approach and actively participating in operational activities

The role will provide leadership, direction and support to the Harbour Master and outdoor operational teams, while acting as the primary liaison between the General Manager and the Club's outdoor operations.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Compliance & Governance

Ensuring compliance with relevant OHS legislation, regulations, Club policies and procedures, maintaining accurate operational records, registers and documentation.

Developing and maintaining the Club's occupational health and safety management system, with a focus on ISO 45001 principles and requirements.

Developing and reviewing risk assessments, SWMS and other OHS documentation.

Develop and maintain maintenance records, compliance inspections, asset registers training records and preventative maintenance programs.

Work Health & Safety

Lead and promote a strong and positive safety culture throughout the Club.

Identify hazards and implement practical risk controls.

Investigate incidents, identify corrective actions and monitor their completion.

Work closely with management and staff to minimise workplace hazards, prevent injuries and promote the wellbeing of employees.

Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Hands-On Operational Support

This is not an office-only position. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a hands-on presence within the operational environment and participate in maintenance and operational activities when required.

The Operations Manager will also provide additional support to operational teams during:

• Peak periods
• Significant maintenance activities
• Operational projects

About You

The successful applicant will ideally have a background in health and safety, operations, compliance or a related field, together with practical experience leading teams and managing operational environments.

You will have a sound understanding of relevant OHS legislation and the ability to translate legislative and compliance requirements into practical workplace procedures.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience leading and being accountable for operations, teams and budgets.
• Experience developing and implementing health and safety systems.
• Knowledge of relevant OHS legislation, regulations and standards.
• Experience with risk assessments, SWMS, workplace inspections and incident investigations.
• Experience with preventative maintenance and asset management.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to lead, coach and hold people accountable.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach.
• The ability to work independently while also being an effective member of the management team.
• A willingness to be hands-on and actively involved in operational activities.

Previous experience within this unique industry and environment will be highly regarded.

In particular, experience or knowledge of:

• Marina operations and infrastructure
• Houseboat slipping and launching
• Plant and equipment
• Safety management systems & ISO 45001
