Job description

Lead one of Australia's most significant logistics operations at our Distribution Centre in Somerton, Victoria.

This is not your average Operations Manager role.

We're seeking a safety-focused, people-oriented and commercially minded operations leader to play a key role within the Somerton Distribution Centre, supporting the distribution of health, beauty and healthcare products across Victoria and Australia. The facility forms part of the extensive Sigma Healthcare distribution network, servicing Chemist Warehouse, Amcal, Discount Drug Stores and other pharmacy partners nationwide.

Based at our Somerton Distribution Centre, you'll help lead a 70,000sqm operation housing more than 23,000 pallet spaces, supporting a high-volume distribution network and overseeing a workforce of approximately 300 team members, including permanent and casual employees.

Reporting directly to the Distribution Centre Manager, you'll serve as the critical link between strategy and execution, driving operational performance, safety, continuous improvement, service excellence and people development across a large workforce. Your ability to engage teams, develop leaders and deliver results will be instrumental in maintaining world-class distribution standards.

What makes this opportunity stand out?
  • This is a highly visible leadership role where your impact will be seen and felt across the business.
  • You'll work within a leadership structure that includes Team Managers, Shift Managers, the Distribution Centre Manager and State Logistics Manager, giving you direct exposure to senior decision-makers and future career pathways.
  • You'll be based at a high-profile site that enjoys strong connectivity and visibility with support office and the broader enterprise.
  • For someone eager for career growth, accountability and large-scale operational leadership, this role offers a genuine platform to elevate your career.
What does the role involve?

As Operations Manager, you'll take ownership of a major part of our distribution centre operation, leading people, performance and continuous improvement initiatives. We're looking for a passionate leader who believes safety is the foundation of a successful culture, creating an environment where our teams feel supported, engaged and able to thrive. You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading large operational teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Driving safety, engagement and operational performance
  • Partnering with leaders across multiple shifts to achieve service and productivity targets
  • Converting labour, volume and operational data into meaningful business decisions
  • Managing labour costs, budgets and forecasts while delivering strong operational outcomes
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Coaching, developing and inspiring leaders at all levels
  • Building a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork and customer outcomes
  • Acting as a trusted conduit between senior leadership and frontline teams
Who are we looking for?

More important than industry systems experience is your mindset and attitude. We're looking for someone with:

  • Positive energy and someone who takes genuine ownership
  • A strong work ethic and a desire to make an impact
  • The eagerness to grow into larger leadership opportunities
  • Commercial and financial acumen
  • The ability to understand how labour hours, productivity and volume translate into business performance
  • A hands-on leadership style and visible presence on the floor
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build credibility with teams at every level
  • Experience leading large operational, logistics, supply chain, warehouse or distribution environments
  • A down-to-earth approach coupled with a focus on results
  • Experience with SAP would be advantageous, however it is not essential. We are more interested in finding a capable leader with strong operational instincts, commercial thinking and a passion for leading people.
