Job summary

BBR Agency is an event production, placemaking and activation agency based in The Rocks. We are seeking an Operations Assistant Manager to lead staffing and bar operations behind Sydney's largest festivals.

You will recruit, onboard and supervise staff, brief teams, manage rosters across multiple zones, and ensure RSA compliance, safety and high service standards during live events. Evening and weekend work is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong rostering, scheduling and staff briefing experience.
• Current NSW RSA certificate and knowledge of alcohol compliance.
• Food safety knowledge.
• Strong budget tracking and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of NSW employment law, award conditions and casual workforce compliance.
• Vendor management and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, Outlook).
• Festival or large outdoor event experience in fast-paced, multi-zone environments.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and onboard casual and full-time event staff for up to 60-80 people.
• Forecast staffing by zone and build rosters across zones and shifts.
• Brief and train staff; prepare materials and assign reporting lines.
• Manage staffing in real time during events.
• Oversee bar and alcohol operations; ensure high service standards.
• Ensure RSA compliance and licence conditions; raise issues when needed.
• Plan alcohol stock and manage inventory; coordinate supplier orders.
• Reconcile takings and revenue.
• Track staffing budget; perform staff cost analysis and variance reporting.

Operations Assistant Manager (Staffing, Bars, & Events)

BBR Agency is an event production, placemaking and activation agency based in The Rocks. We are looking for a Production & Operations Manager to take ownership of staffing and bar operations. You will run the people and the bars behind Sydney's biggest festivals. This is a hands-on role where you brief, train and supervise staff directly, and you own the job once it is handed to you.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit and onboard casual and full-time event staff, including labour hire, for up to about 60-80 people across the event
• Forecast staffing by zone and build rosters across multiple zones and shifts
• Prepare briefing materials and brief staff so everyone knows their role, zone and who they report to
• Manage staffing in real time during the event, including absences and last-minute changes
• Look after staff welfare, including breaks, fatigue management, and time in lieu approvals and tracking
• Oversee bar and alcohol operations, including themed drinking experiences, and keep service standards high
• Make sure bars follow RSA requirements and licence conditions, and elevate any compliance issue immediately
• Plan alcohol stock, manage inventory and coordinate supplier orders and deliveries
• Reconcile takings and revenue
• Track and reconcile the staffing budget, with staff cost analysis and variance reporting

About you

• Strong rostering, scheduling, staff briefing and training experience (rostering software is a bonus)
• Current NSW RSA certificate and a solid grasp of alcohol compliance
• Food safety knowledge
• Strong budget tracking and financial reporting
• Knowledge of NSW employment law, award conditions and time in lieu, including casual workforce compliance
• Vendor management, supervision, complaint handling and problem-solving
• Confident with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, Outlook)
• Festival or large outdoor event experience in a fast-paced, multi-zone environment is valued
• Organised, detail-focused, and calm when something breaks at 4pm
• Comfortable working evenings and weekends during live event periods
