Job summary

The Royal Women's Hospital in Parkville is seeking a Theatre Technician to join the Operating Suite. You will provide technical care in a multidisciplinary team and support surgical services 24/7 as part of a rotating roster.

You will ensure correct functioning of equipment, assist anaesthetists and surgeons, and contribute to patient-focused perioperative care. Competitive benefits include salary packaging and five weeks annual leave.

Responsibilities

• Ensure equipment/instrumentation is functioning and checks performed.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate care with anaesthetist, surgeon and nursing staff.
• Promote a supportive learning environment in the operating suite.

• $57,002 - $73,502(pro-rata for part-time), Grade 1-4 Theatre technician as per EBA + Salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the unit

The Operating Suite provides surgical services 24 hours per day, seven days a week and consists of 7 operating theatres including one dedicated emergency theatre and, a day procedure theatre. Surgical specialties include obstetrics, gynaecology, urogynaecology, breast, IVF and oncology.

About the role

As a Theatre Technician you will be responsible for providing technical care to women and their families within a multidisciplinary team environment, working collegially with other health professionals. You will work in our operating theatres and, you will provide patient focused care for women and babies. The care provided is evidence based and directed to improving the surgical outcomes for women and their families.

A regular day will see you:

• Provide direct patient care to women accessing Perioperative Services
• Keep abreast current knowledge regarding technical equipment and positioning the patient for surgery
• Assess patient needs and ensure that all equipment and instrumentation is correctly functioning and mandatory checks have been performed
• Plan for, implement, and evaluate care for a patient following assessment of patient needs and in collaboration with the anaesthetist, surgeon and nursing colleagues
• Promote a supportive learning environment for all clinicians working in the operating suite

About you

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

• Experience in working effectively in a multidisciplinary team
• An ability to work a rotating roster of weekdays, weekends and night duty
• Prior experience as a Theatre Technician as per the EBA (desired)
• Experience working within the Operating theatre complex
