Job summary

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking two Open Spaces Maintenance Officers to join the Open Spaces and Cemeteries team at the Cannonvale Depot.

This hands-on role covers mowing, garden bed maintenance, and park infrastructure across Jubilee Pocket to Shute Harbour, contributing to safe, well-presented public spaces.

Qualifications

• Current MR Driver Licence or the willingness and ability to obtain one.
• General Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card)
• Physical capability for outdoor labouring and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Undertake mowing, brush cutting, edging, vegetation control, litter collection and general open space maintenance.
• Maintain garden beds and streetscapes through planting, mulching, pruning, watering and weed control.
• Install, inspect and maintain park infrastructure, including furniture, signs, fences, guideposts, bollards and bins.
• Complete minor repairs, painting, pressure cleaning, graffiti removal and basic carpentry tasks within your skills and training.
• Operate and care for Council vehicles, plant and equipment, including trucks, trailers, ride‑on mowers and brushcutters.
• Record completed works and defects and support wider Open Spaces and Cemeteries activities as required.

Base salary between $71,971.55 per annum to $73,543.67 per annum

Plus Locality Allowance + Superannuation

About The Role:

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking applications for 2 x Open Spaces Maintenance Officers to join our Open Spaces and Cemeteries team based at the Cannonvale Depot.

This hands‑on role delivers a range of open space maintenance and labouring services across the Jubilee Pocket to Shute Harbour area, contributing to the high standard presentation, safety and functionality of Council's parks, gardens, streetscapes and community spaces. Working with a supportive team, you will play an important role in enhancing the liveability and natural beauty of one of Australia's most sought‑after regions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Undertaking mowing, brush cutting, edging, vegetation control, litter collection and general open space maintenance.

• Maintaining and developing garden beds and streetscapes through planting, mulching, pruning, watering and weed control.

• Installing, inspecting and maintaining park infrastructure, including furniture, signs, fences, guideposts, bollards and bins.

• Completing minor repairs, painting, pressure cleaning, graffiti removal and basic carpentry tasks within your skills and training.

• Operating and caring for Council vehicles, plant and equipment, including trucks, trailers, ride‑on mowers and brushcutters.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A current MR Driver Licence, or the willingness and ability to obtain one, and a General Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card).

• The physical capability and demonstrated ability to safely undertake outdoor labouring and maintenance activities.

• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Experience operating ride‑on mowers, brushcutters and other small plant used in open space maintenance will be highly regarded.
