Job summary

Hilltops Council invites applications for an Open Spaces Apprentice based at Boorowa Works Depot. You will assist in maintaining open spaces, facilities and amenities while undertaking the Certificate III in Parks & Gardens.

During the apprenticeship you will perform labouring and plant operation duties under supervision, contributing to the Council’s urban infrastructure across Boorowa, Harden and Young depots. This program suits recent school leavers or those starting a career in horticulture.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Parks & Gardens (required or pursued)
• Interest in horticulture and community spaces
• Willingness to perform labouring tasks and operate basic plant equipment

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance of Council’s open spaces, facilities and amenities
• Undertake the Certificate III in Parks & Gardens
• Perform labouring tasks and plant operation duties under supervision
• Contribute to shaping and maintaining urban infrastructure across Hilltops depots (Boorowa, Harden, Young)

Job description

(Term contract for up to 4 years, full-time, 76 hours per nine-day fortnight)

• Rate of pay up to $66k p.a. (Trainee band – dependent on age/qualifications/experience) + 12% Superannuation with other entitlements from the Local Government State Award.

As our Open Spaces Apprentice, you will assist in the maintenance of Council’s open spaces, facilities and amenities while undertaking the qualification of Certificate III in Parks & Gardens.

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will provide labouring & plant operation duties under supervision and play an active role in shaping the natural beauty of your community. You’ll come to play a key role in building and maintaining Council’s urban infrastructure, not just across Boorowa, but the wider Hilltops Local Government Area through undertaking work-rotations at Harden and Young depots.
