Job summary

Thiess is seeking an experienced Leading Hand at Caval Ridge Mine to provide strong operational and safety leadership for the production crew, ensuring targets are met safely and efficiently. You will carry responsibility for fostering a proactive safety culture and a healthy workplace while maintaining compliance with community and environmental standards.

The role requires proven leadership in open-cut coal mining, solid organizational and communication skills, and current site certifications.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Step-Up Supervisor or Leading Hand in open-cut coal mining is highly valued.
• Solid understanding of open-cut coal mining operations.
• Strong organisational, communication, and presentation skills with a friendly and motivational approach.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Relevant qualifications in the coal mining industry.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Verified machinery skills list (training transcripts) LMS documents, signed by SSE or Delegate.
• Current S123 and G2 certifications
• Current Standard 11
• Current Drivers Licence

Responsibilities

• Lead a mining crew to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
• Step up as supervisor when needed.
• Perform regular inspections and complete reports per site policies.
• Coordinate dispatch personnel, operators, and equipment to meet production schedules.
• Apply mining practices to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Look for ways to continuously improve.
