Job summary

Golding Contractors is seeking a motivated Open Cut Examiner (OCE) for our Baralaba coal operation in QLD. You will provide statutory coverage, coaching Supervisors and crews to maintain safe, compliant mining activities across multiple departments.

The role reports to the Production Superintendent and offers either a full-time position or a job-share arrangement to maintain statutory coverage. You will work on a 7-on 7-off roster on site and influence safety culture and operational performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible field leadership and promote a positive safety culture across the operation.
• Lead, coach and mentor Supervisors and frontline personnel in SHMS and site procedures.
• Support safe production across production, maintenance, drill and blast, and contractor areas.
• Assist with incident investigations, root cause analyses and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and manage operational improvement projects as required.
• Conduct inspections and statutory examinations to ensure compliance with legislation.

Golding is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Open Cut Examiner (OCE) to join our team at our Baralaba coal operation. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced statutory official to provide leadership across multiple operational areas, supporting safe production while ensuring compliance with Queensland mining legislation and site standards.

This role is ideal for a proactive leader who thrives in the field, enjoys coaching others and has a strong ability to balance operational performance with effective risk management.

About the Role

Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will provide statutory coverage across the operation, working collaboratively with operational teams to maintain safe, compliant and efficient mining activities. The successful candidate will be flexible in their approach and willing to work across multiple departments to support operational requirements.

This position is available as either:

• A full-time role, providing leave and operational coverage across the site.
• A job share arrangement, offering flexibility while maintaining statutory coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Exercise statutory responsibilities as an Open Cut Examiner in accordance with Queensland Coal Mining legislation.
• Provide visible field leadership and promote a positive safety culture across the operation.
• Lead, coach and mentor Supervisors and frontline personnel in the effective application of the site's Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) and associated procedures.
• Support safe production activities across production, maintenance, drill and blast, and contractor work areas.
• Assist with incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Coordinate and manage operational improvement projects as required.
• Conduct workplace inspections and statutory examinations to ensure compliance with legislative and site requirements.
• Monitor and manage work within environmentally sensitive areas, ensuring compliance with environmental obligations.
• Identify hazards, assess operational risks and implement practical and effective risk controls.
• Support contractor management and ensure contractor compliance with site standards.
• Assist in maintaining statutory compliance across the open cut operation.
• Foster strong working relationships across all levels of the operation to achieve safe and productive outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• A current Queensland Open Cut Examiner Practising Certificate.
• Demonstrated experience in Queensland open cut coal mining operations.
• Sound knowledge of Queensland mining legislation and statutory obligations.
• A strong commitment to safe production, demonstrated through effective risk management and the implementation of risk controls.
• Proven ability to lead by example and influence positive safety behaviours in the field.
• Excellent leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities across operational and leadership teams.
• Experience supporting incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
• The flexibility to work across multiple operational areas to meet business requirements.
• High levels of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
