Job summary

The laboratory assistant position is based in Cooma and is a full-time, on-site role working with senior staff to run tests, analyse results, and report data findings for the Snowy 2.0 project.

Required qualifications include engineering/geology/geoscience degrees and extensive field experience in soil and groundwater sampling, with strong emphasis on health and safety, documentation, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Recognised tertiary qualifications within Engineering, Geology, or a relevant Geoscience field.
• White Card Experience: Minimum 8 years of construction Geological / Engineering experience including soil and groundwater sampling and contractor oversight during drilling activities.

Responsibilities

• The lab assistant will compile data, transfer notes and recordings, and label, organise, and maintain samples.
• Take notes, record data and results, and organise documentation.
• Transfer data and results from notes and records to computer formats.
• Organise and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens.
• Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
• Identify and label samples.
• Prepare equipment and workspace.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties as needed.
• Compile research and information needed for study.
• Conduct laboratory tests, analyze, and categorize results.
• Record and document analysis results; report results and variations to supervisor.
• Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies.
• Sanitize and sterilize equipment and workspace.
• Research industry trends and advancement.
• Assists all senior laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed.
