Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in Marrickville, NSW is hiring a Nursing Assistant on a permanent part-time basis (63 hours per fortnight) with varied shifts. You’ll bring customer-facing skills to support donors through the donation process and receive full training.

No prior blood collection experience is required; training blends hands-on practice and online learning. You’ll join a diverse team, with shifts Monday to Sunday, including afternoons, and reward with generous leave and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interview potential donors to assess eligibility and suitability.
• Create a donor experience donors will love and rebook.
• Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests.
• Set up machines and collections equipment.
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect blood products.
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist with rebooking.
• Work with team to meet collection targets.

About the role

Step into a rewarding role as a Nursing Assistant where you will bring excellent customer-facing skills and a genuine passion to deliver an exceptional service to our donors.

You will play a key role in supporting our donors through their donation process. Full training is provided so, along with the above, all you need is the curiosity and motivation to learn the process of collecting blood and biological product.

A day in the centre could see you:

• Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
• Create a donor experience they’ll love and want to come back Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
• Set up machines and collections equipment
• Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
• Monitor donors post-donation and assist them with rebooking their next donation
• Work collaboratively to achieve collection targets

No previous blood collection experience is required. Our paid training program blends hands-on practice with online learning to set you up for success. What’s essential is your passion for delivering an exceptional donor experience, supported by proven customer-facing experience that you can draw on in every interaction.

Your skills in action will include:

Apply your customer-facing experience to create positive, welcoming interactions

• Be comfortable with needles and blood/biological materials
• Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
• Support and foster a fantastic team culture
• Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
• Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
