Job summary

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in Hobart is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support donors through the donation process. You’ll join a welcoming team, learn the process of collecting blood and biological products, and help create a positive experience for donors and visitors.

No prior blood collection experience is required. Our paid training blends hands-on practice with online learning to prepare you for success, with a focus on safety and customer service.

  • Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
  • Monitor donors post-donation and assist them with rebooking their next donation
  • Work collaboratively to achieve collection targets

  • Permanent Part-Time opportunity - 50.00 hours per fortnight over 7 shifts

About The Role

Step into a rewarding role as a Nursing Assistant where you will bring excellent customer-facing skills and a genuine passion to deliver an exceptional service to our donors.

You will play a key role in supporting our donors through their donation process. Full training is provided so, along with the above, all you need is the curiosity and motivation to learn the process of collecting blood and biological product.

A day in the centre could see you:

  • Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate

No previous blood collection experience is required. Our paid training program blends hands‑on practice with online learning to set you up for success. What’s essential is your passion for delivering an exceptional donor experience, supported by proven customer-facing experience that you can draw on in every interaction.

Your Skills In Action Will Include
  • Apply your customer-facing experience to create positive, welcoming interactions
  • Be comfortable with needles and blood/biological materials
  • Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
  • Support and foster a fantastic team culture
  • Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
  • Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Saturday/Sunday, including weekends and afternoon shifts
