About Northern Health:

As an organisation we have a clear focus on how we service and partner with our community, including our strategy of helping the community stay well when at home. Our reputation of community minded, inclusive and progressive is matched to none.

Northern Health is located in the rapidly growing northern suburbs with projected growth the biggest in the state. With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour’s drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourne’s North is fast becoming the place to be.

Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Nurses for the position of Nurse Unit Manager at Caladenia Nursing Home, located at Kilmore District Hospital. The role also provides leadership oversight of the District Nursing Service.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Nurse Unit Manager provides visible, accessible leadership and is responsible for the operational, professional and clinical management of Caladenia Nursing Home and the District Nursing Service. Working closely with residents, families and the multidisciplinary team, the role leads the delivery of safe, high-quality and person-centred care.

The role is responsible for leading and supporting staff, coordinating care, managing workforce and resources, and maintaining a safe and positive environment for residents, staff and visitors. A key focus is ensuring compliance with the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and current aged care reforms, meeting care-minute requirements, maintaining accreditation readiness and supporting sound financial and operational performance.

The successful applicant will oversee key aged-care requirements including AN-ACC, quality indicator reporting and the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), while building effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. The role also participates in the Kilmore District Hospital Emergency Controller roster, with training provided, and may provide relief coverage for the Director of Nursing/Site Operations Director when required.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • A relevant management qualification, or demonstrated progress towards one, and relevant postgraduate clinical qualifications where applicable.
  • A minimum of four years' postgraduate nursing experience, preferably including experience as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, nurse in charge or in another clinical leadership capacity.
  • Recent senior leadership experience in residential aged care, with sound knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards, aged care reforms and Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, develop and support a multidisciplinary clinical team through visible, inclusive and accountable leadership.
  • Knowledge of AN-ACC assessment and funding, quality indicator reporting, care-minute requirements and SIRS reporting obligations.
  • Strong operational, workforce and financial management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and resources effectively.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with residents and their families.
  • A strong commitment to person-centred care, clinical governance, continuous improvement, accreditation readiness and the Northern Health values of Safe, Kind and Together.
  • Computer literacy across Microsoft applications and roster-management systems; familiarity with the My Aged Care portal is desirable.
