At the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, every role helps children and young people live their healthiest lives. As the largest paediatric health service in Australia, we care for thousands of children each year, in hospital and at home. Our people are united by compassion, collaboration and excellence in care.

An exciting opportunity exists to join our growing Cardiac Inpatient Unit as a Nurse Practitioner. This newly established role offers the chance to shape and lead a contemporary model of care for children and young people with complex cardiac conditions within one of Australia's most comprehensive paediatric cardiac services. Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide advanced clinical care, influence service development, drive quality improvement, and contribute to excellence in patient and family-centred care. Our service delivers the full spectrum of paediatric cardiac care, including congenital and acquired heart disease, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, ventricular assist device (VAD) therapy, and heart transplantation. This is a unique opportunity to help define a new role, support some of the state's most complex cardiac patients, and make a lasting impact on the future of paediatric cardiac care.

What you'll be doing

The NPC works autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role to deliver a child and family centred approach to healthcare within the nominated specialty service. The NPC provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. The NPC’s scope of practice (SCOP) is determined by the context of practice, is underpinned by policy and service requirements. The SCOP will be reviewed regularly in conjunction with the service director and/or manager or Nurse Manager as relevant to the service. The NPC role includes, but is not limited to comprehensive health assessment, initiation and interpretation of diagnostic investigations, diagnosis, prescription of pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents/therapies and discussion with/referral to medical specialists and other health professionals. The NPC will clinically manage patients requiring hospital admission or discharge, in the clinic or community setting or as relevant to the service. The NPC will emphasize health promotion and disease prevention. The NPC will draw on their professional competency and capability to improve clinical service outcomes through research and quality improvement activities. The NPC will provide education and support to other clinicians that facilitate the ongoing development of clinical practice. The NPC will maintain a standard level of education reflective of their competence. The NPC will challenge and broaden their education to meet service outcomes and higher competencies.

A Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) may be considered where no suitably qualified Nurse Practitioner has applied. The Transitional Nurse Practitioner will adhere to the primary purposes and standards of practice of a NP within the limitations and ScOP set out for the Transitional Nurse Practitioner.
