Job summary

Latrobe Regional Health in Gippsland is inviting a Nurse Practitioner to lead advanced clinical care within the Latrobe Valley Community Mental Health Service. The role combines assessment, prescribing, and care coordination for complex mental health needs, with a strong emphasis on Clozapine program governance and driving Equally Well initiatives.

  • Endorsed NP with current AHPRA endorsement and Division 1 RN registration.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing and NP practice.
  • Extensive senior mental health nursing experience with advanced clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, and care coordination for consumers with complex mental health needs in accordance with Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice.
  • Lead the clinical oversight and governance of the Clozapine Program, including monitoring, management of adverse effects, medication adherence, and coordination with key healthcare providers.
  • Establish and lead an NP-led physical health clinic, embedding Equally Well principles through comprehensive physical health monitoring, health promotion, early intervention, and management of cardiometabolic risk factors.
  • Provide expert clinical leadership, consultation, education, and mentoring to staff while supporting multidisciplinary care planning and evidence-based practice.
  • Lead and contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, research, service evaluation, and policy development activities to improve consumer outcomes and service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with consumers, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to support recovery-oriented, person-centred, and integrated mental health care.

The Latrobe Valley Community Mental Health team are seeking an experienced and innovative Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced clinical leadership on afull-time ongoing basis. This autonomous and collaborative role combines specialist mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, and care coordination with a strong focus on improving the physical health outcomes of people living with mental illness. Working closely with consumers, carers, psychiatry, general practice, and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead the Clozapine and Equally Well programs, drive evidence-based practice, and contribute to service development, education, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Endorsed Nurse Practitioner with current AHPRA endorsement, Division 1 Registered Nurse registration, and postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing and Nurse Practitioner practice.
  • Extensive senior mental health nursing experience with advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing, and complex case management.
  • Strong knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, recovery-oriented practice, clinical governance frameworks, and contemporary mental health service delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence practice, mentor staff, lead quality improvement initiatives, and drive service innovation.
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with proven success working collaboratively across multidisciplinary and community-based services.
  • Passionate about improving both mental and physical health outcomes for consumers through holistic, evidence-based, and person-centred care.
