Job summary

Latrobe Regional Health invites applications for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join the CRCU on a part‑time ongoing basis. You will deliver high‑quality, recovery‑oriented care within inpatient and sub‑acute mental health services, working with consumers, carers and a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration and a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing where applicable.
  • Experience in mental health nursing with the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for consumers with complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and recovery‑oriented care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health and risk assessments and develop individualised care plans in collaboration with consumers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver evidence‑based mental health nursing care including medication management and psychoeducation to consumers and families.
  • Facilitate therapeutic programs and group activities to support recovery, daily living skills and community reintegration.
  • Support discharge planning and care coordination to ensure continuity of care and safe transitions between services.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to enrolled nurses, students and new staff to foster a positive learning culture.

About the role

Latrobe Regional Health is seeking a Registered Psychiatric Nurse to Join our CRCU Team on aPart-time ongoing basis.

In this role, you will provide high-quality, recovery-oriented care to consumers within inpatient and sub-acute mental health services. Working collaboratively with consumers, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, you will undertake comprehensive assessments, deliver therapeutic interventions, support recovery goals, and contribute to safe and effective mental health care that promotes positive clinical outcomes.

The role of the Registered Psychiatric Nurse is to:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, develop individualised care plans, and participate in ongoing clinical reviews in partnership with consumers, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver evidence-based mental health nursing care, including medication management, monitoring physical and mental health needs, and providing psychoeducation to consumers and families.
  • Facilitate therapeutic programs and group activities that support recovery, daily living skills, wellbeing, and community reintegration.
  • Respond effectively to psychiatric and medical emergencies while maintaining safe, person-centred care and adherence to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Support discharge planning and care coordination to ensure continuity of care and successful transition between services.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to enrolled nurses, students, and new staff members while contributing to a positive learning culture.
About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Registered Nurse (Division 1 or Division 3) with current AHPRA registration and a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing where applicable.
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health nursing with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for consumers with complex mental health needs.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, recovery-oriented practice, and contemporary mental health care principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic relationships with consumers, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while remaining adaptable and responsive in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and consumer-centred care while supporting continuous improvement and professional development.
