Job summary

McMahon Services is seeking an experienced Night Shift Supervisor – Civil Utilities to lead the night works on a major infrastructure program in South Australia. You will oversee crews, subcontractors and site interfaces, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of water, sewer and drainage works during night shifts.

Reporting to Site/Project Managers, you’ll plan activities, manage live services, maintain records and handovers, and uphold WHS standards while progressing works to schedule across

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in civil construction or utilities.
• 3–5 years’ experience supervising civil utilities or infrastructure.
• Strong experience across water, sewer, drainage and/or underground services.
• Demonstrated experience leading crews and subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving capability.
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify risks, delays and opportunities early.
• Strong understanding of WHS requirements, particularly around live services and complex construction environments.
• Current Driver’s Licence and ability to obtain required project and site clearances.
• Availability and commitment to working night shift.

McMahon Services is delivering major civil utilities works as part of one of South Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects, with a long-term delivery program ahead.

We’re seeking an experienced Night Shift Supervisor – Civil Utilities to join our Civil & Infrastructure team and take ownership of site activities throughout the night shift.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll coordinate crews and subcontractors, manage site interfaces and keep works progressing safely and efficiently across water, sewer, stormwater and associated underground services.

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Manager and Project Managers, you’ll be responsible for supervising the night shift delivery of civil utilities works, including water, sewer, drainage and associated underground services.

You’ll coordinate subcontractors, crews, plant and site activities to keep the program moving while maintaining strong safety, environmental and quality standards.

As the key site leader during your shift, you’ll need to be comfortable working autonomously, making decisions and resolving issues as they arise, while knowing when to elevate matters to the broader project leadership team.

Clear communication between shifts will also be critical. You’ll maintain detailed site records and provide thorough handovers to ensure continuity between the night and day teams.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and supervise civil utilities works throughout the night shift.
• Coordinate crews, subcontractors, plant and site activities.
• Manage water, sewer, stormwater and associated underground services works.
• Plan and coordinate activities against short-term programmes and project milestones.
• Lead pre-starts, toolbox talks, safety inspections and risk controls.
• Maintain strong WHS, environmental and quality standards.
• Manage works around live services, public interfaces and existing infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate site diaries, records and detailed shift handovers.
• Identify and escalation delays, variations, EOTs and project risks early.
• Work closely with day shift and project leadership to maintain continuity of works.
• Resolve site issues and make practical decisions to keep works progressing safely.

What You’ll Bring

• Trade qualification with relevant civil construction or utilities experience.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience supervising civil utilities or infrastructure works.
• Strong experience across water, sewer, drainage and/or underground services.
• Demonstrated experience leading crews and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of civil construction methodologies, sequencing and site coordination.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving capability.
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify risks, delays and opportunities early.
• Strong understanding of WHS requirements, particularly around live services and complex construction environments.
• Current Driver’s Licence and ability to obtain required project and site clearances.
