Job summary

McMahon Services in Australia’s South Australia region is seeking an experienced Night Shift Supervisor – Civil Utilities to lead the night crew across water, sewer, drainage and underground works on a major infrastructure program.

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will coordinate crews, monitor safety, quality and environmental standards, and ensure continuity between night and day teams while working closely with project leadership.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification with relevant civil construction or utilities experience.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience supervising civil utilities or infrastructure works.
• Strong experience across water, sewer, drainage and/or underground services.
• Demonstrated experience leading crews and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of civil construction methodologies, sequencing and site coordination.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving capability.
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify risks, delays and opportunities early.
• Strong understanding of WHS requirements, particularly around live services and complex construction environments.
• Current Driver’s Licence and ability to obtain required project and site clearances.
• Availability and commitment to working night shift.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise civil utilities works throughout the night shift.
• Coordinate crews, subcontractors, plant and site activities.
• Manage water, sewer, stormwater and associated underground services works.
• Plan and coordinate activities against short‑term programmes and project milestones.
• Lead pre‑starts, toolbox talks, safety inspections and risk controls.
• Maintain strong WHS, environmental and quality standards.
• Manage works around live services, public interfaces and existing infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate site diaries, records and detailed shift handovers.
• Identify and elevate delays, variations, EOTs and project risks early.
• Work closely with day shift and project leadership to maintain continuity of works.
• Resolve site issues and make practical decisions to keep works progressing safely.
