Job summary

The MJD Foundation in Darwin is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its Therapy Program, delivering specialist OT services to people living with Machado-Joseph disease and related conditions within a multidisciplinary team.

You will work with clients, families and Aboriginal Community Workers, contribute to education, research and resource development, and travel to remote communities as required.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a qualified therapist.
• Experience prescribing assistive technology, ideally including wheelchairs.
• Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures.
• Commitment to person, family-centred and cross-cultural practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver and evaluate OT programs and assessments.
• Collaborate with clients, families, Aboriginal Community Workers and cultural advisors.
• Provide advice and justification for equipment and supports through the NDIS.
• Assess and prescribe assistive technology to support independence.
• Support NDIS plan development and delivery.
• Build strong relationships with clients and families.
• Contribute to research, education, training and resource development.
• Support continuous improvement of clinical services and health outcomes.
• Travel to remote communities by light aircraft and 4WD as required.
