Job description

We’re looking for a .NET engineer to join the Engineering practice at H+S, building applications, services and integrations across Microsoft 365 and Azure, with React front ends.

Your core skill is software engineering: writing clean C#, designing APIs, connecting systems, and delivering reliable applications. You’ll apply those skills to the platforms our clients use every day, with a particular focus on SharePoint Online and the broader Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

The work includes intranets, document management, collaboration tools and business applications, alongside the .NET services and integrations that connect them. You’ll work across SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform and Azure, helping decide when to configure an existing capability and when to build something custom.

You don’t need to be an expert in every Microsoft 365 product. You do need strong .NET foundations, experience building React front ends, and a willingness to develop your SharePoint and Microsoft 365 capability.

You’ll take ownership of your work from initial conversations through to deployment and support, with engineers and designers around you to collaborate and review ideas.

What you’ll do
  • Build and maintain C#/.NET applications, ASP.NET Core APIs, Azure Functions and background services.
  • Build React front ends using TypeScript, connecting user interfaces to .NET APIs and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Connect Microsoft 365 with clients’ business systems through Microsoft Graph, SharePoint APIs and other integration services.
  • Develop solutions for SharePoint Online, including intranets, document management, collaboration and business workflows.
  • Build or extend SharePoint interfaces using React, TypeScript and the SharePoint Framework (SPFx), supported by .NET services where needed.
  • Choose between native Microsoft 365 capabilities, Power Platform and custom development, and explain the trade-offs.
  • Implement authentication and authorisation using Entra ID, with appropriate permissions and secure access to services and data.
  • Write maintainable, testable code, contribute to peer reviews and use automated build and deployment pipelines.
  • Add logging, monitoring and diagnostics to support troubleshooting and ongoing operation.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts, provisioning tools and migration utilities to automate repeatable work.
  • Work with designers, content specialists and clients on information architecture, permissions and the experience of using the solutions you build.
  • Apply client security, governance and compliance requirements throughout delivery.
  • Produce technical documentation and contribute to handover, training and ongoing support.
  • Estimate your work, raise scope changes early and support Associate Consultants through collaboration and code review.
What we’re looking for
Core engineering skills
  • Commercial experience building and supporting production applications using C# and modern .NET.
  • Experience developing ASP.NET Core web APIs and integrating with external systems.
  • Experience building React front ends using TypeScript, reusable components, and API integration.
  • An understanding of authentication and authorisation, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
  • Experience with Azure services such as Functions, App Service, Service Bus or Azure SQL.
  • Experience with relational databases and data access using Entity Framework Core or equivalent tools.
  • Practical experience with automated testing, Git, code review, and CI/CD.
  • Secure coding practices and an understanding of permissions, secrets management, and application dependencies.
Working across Microsoft platforms
  • An interest in building solutions for SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365, and a willingness to develop depth in these platforms.
  • Experience integrating with Microsoft APIs or services, or comparable experience working with other enterprise platforms.
  • An interest in automation using PowerShell and platform tooling.
Ways of working
  • Comfortable working directly with clients, clarifying requirements and explaining technical decisions.
  • Able to take ownership of delivery while knowing when to seek input.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Comfortable estimating work and identifying dependencies, risks and scope changes.
  • Practical use of AI-assisted development tools, with critical review of generated code and responsibility for the final result.
  • Qualifications in IT, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Must be an Australian citizen with an existing Australian Government Baseline security clearance or higher.
Nice to have
  • SharePoint Online development, including SPFx, React and TypeScript.
  • Microsoft Graph, PnP Core SDK or SharePoint APIs.
  • Microsoft 365 solutions involving Teams, Power Apps or Power Automate.
  • SharePoint provisioning, administration or content migrations.
  • Entra ID app registrations, managed identities and application permissions.
  • Microsoft Purview, including sensitivity labels, retention and data loss prevention.
  • Infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform.
  • Modernising legacy .NET Framework or SharePoint applications.
  • Government delivery environments, including Essential Eight and ISM requirements.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness, integrations or extensibility.
  • Relevant Microsoft or Azure certifications.
Why H+S
  • Work across a varied portfolio of government, private sector and not-for-profit clients.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data engineers and designers in a shared capability practice.
  • Apply your .NET and React skills to applications and platforms people use in their everyday work.
  • Contribute to technical decisions and take ownership of the solutions you deliver.

Update: we've broadened our search for our .NET Engineer role!

If you're strong in C#, modern .NET and ASP.NET Core, and have built React front ends with TypeScript, we want to hear from you. You don't need deep SharePoint or Microsoft 365 experience. Solid .NET foundations and a willingness to learn are what matter most.
