Job summary

University of Sydney seeks a senior leader to establish and drive the Technician Commitment across Australia. You will translate an international framework into a bold national programme, coordinating multi-stakeholder collaboration and advancing visibility of technical professionals.

You will build governance, lead a national team, and engage universities, government, funders and industry to deliver meaningful, lasting change for Australia's technical workforce.

Qualifications

• Substantial leadership experience within higher education, research, or related sectors.
• Knowledge of technical services and workforce development within research or HE.
• Proven ability to lead complex programmes with governance, budgets, risk, and delivery.
• Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders and translate strategy into programmes.
• Excellent communication, advocacy, and influencing skills.
• Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in technical workforce.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the establishment, implementation and growth of the Technician Commitment in Australia, ensuring alignment with the global framework and strategic priorities
• Establish and support the Australian Technician Commitment Steering Board, providing governance support, strategic advice, reporting and stakeholder engagement
• Lead and coordinate the Australian Technician Commitment team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture
• Build and maintain influential relationships with senior leaders across universities, government, industry, funders and professional bodies to grow national participation and impact
• Oversee the delivery of key program activities, including the Self-Assessment process, Collaboration Fund, national events and stakeholder engagement initiatives
• Represent the Technician Commitment nationally and internationally, using evidence, advocacy and partnerships to strengthen the visibility, recognition and sustainability of Australia's technical workforce
