Job description

Visy is seeking a National Pallet Controller to own pallet control outcomes across our Corrugated Packaging division. This is a hands-on national role focused on protecting significant pallet investment, improving operational discipline, and embedding consistent, best practice pallet governance across multiple sites.

We are looking for someone who is naturally curious and focused on improvement. Someone who does not simply identify and correct a variance, but wants to understand why it happened, what the data is telling us, what needs to change and how we prevent it happening again.

This is not an administrative pallet role. It suits someone who thrives on accountability, influence, problem solving and turning ideas into practical improvements that deliver measurable results.

About the role

Reporting to the National Logistics Manager, you will be the single point of accountability for national pallet control. Working across 50+ pallet accounts, you’ll stabilise the current pallet position, reduce financial exposure, and build a practical, disciplined pallet control framework that works on the ground.

Just as importantly, you will be expected to look beyond the existing process. We want someone who asks questions, investigates problems, uses data to identify opportunities and is prepared to test and implement better ways of working.

With no direct reports, success comes through credibility, curiosity, persistence, and the ability to lead through influence and take people with you when implementing change.

Key focus areas include:
  • Establish accurate, reliable visibility of pallet positions across the network
  • Identify root causes of pallet losses, variances and imbalances
  • Look for patterns, process gaps and opportunities that may not be immediately obvious
  • Question existing processes and identify simpler, stronger or more automated ways of working
  • Turn analysis and ideas into practical improvements that can be implemented across the network
  • Drive corrective actions through to closure, enforcing timelines
  • Embed consistent pallet control standards, procedures and practical training
  • Influence sites, partners and providers to lift compliance and discipline
  • Surface risks, elevate issues and challenge behaviours when required
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights through reporting and analysis
  • Measure whether changes are delivering the expected results and adjust where required
About you

You’re practical, assertive and outcome focused, comfortable saying "this is what needs to be done, when, and why." You can work hand-on in operational environments and confidently engage senior stakeholders when escalation is needed.

You are also naturally curious. When something does not look right, your instinct is to investigate rather than simply accept it. You enjoy asking why, working through data and processes, talking with the people involved and getting to the real cause of an issue.

Importantly, you do not stop at identifying the problem. You have the drive to develop a solution, get people on board, implement the change and follow through until the improvement is embedded.

You’ll bring:
  • Experience in pallet control, logistics, transport, warehousing or third-party logistics environments
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority
  • Knowledge of pooled pallet systems such as CHEP, Loscam or similar
  • Strong analytical skills with Excel, Power BI exposure desirable
  • Natural curiosity and a willingness to question how and why things are done
  • A demonstrated ability to turn analysis into practical process improvement
  • Initiative to identify opportunities without waiting to be told what to investigate
  • Tenacity, resilience and discipline to follow issues through
  • Comfort working through ambiguity and building structure
  • A genuine appetite for implementing change and measuring whether it has worked

This role suits someone who cares deeply about standards, accountability and doing things properly, but who is equally motivated by understanding why problems occur, finding a better way and making meaningful change happen.

What you’ll love when you join us:
  • Sustainability: Contribute to sustainability initiatives that make a difference.
  • Supportive Environment: Be part of a team that values safety, respect, and collaboration.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities for further training and career advancement within the company
